GOVERNMENT TEAMS

For the purposes of our game, we have decided to use the Gold and Silver Command structure to represent the UK government attempting to rebuild the country and its people.

Each of these Command Teams are multi-agency, with representatives from the civil authority, the military and the police. They are the three bodies still influential enough to affect and support the recovery operation, and although they are greatly diminished and stretched beyond breaking point, all three must work together to ensure the public are safe and can return to normal life.

GOLD COMMAND

Gold Command is ultimately responsible for determining the strategy to manage the continued survival and recovery of the regions that they oversee. Gold Command must retain strategic oversight of the recovery and delegate operational matters to the Silver Commands reporting to the team.

Gold Command is made up of the following roles:

  • Chair (Civil Authority)

  • Chief of Defence (Military)

  • Chief of Police (Police)

  • Executive Member for Domestic Affairs (Civil Authority)

  • Executive Member for Health (Civil Authority)

  • Science and Technology Advisor Liaison (Civil Authority)

What type of player will enjoy this role?
Do you enjoy focusing on the bigger picture and setting the direction to be followed by others. Gold Command will play a council game and report their actions and status updates to Civil Contingencies Committee (COBRA) consisting of the remaining senior politicians and civil servants that are non-played characters.

If you think you can help rebuild the country after the apocalypse, perhaps you’re suited to play a role in Gold Command?

SILVER COMMAND

There are multiple Silver Commands in each region, reporting directly to Gold Command. Each Silver Command is formed of three key personal, one from each of the civil authority, military and police and they are expected to turn the strategic direction they receive into operational plans and act upon them.

Each Silver Command is made up of the following roles which report to their senior leaders:

  • Regional Representative (Civil Authority)

  • Chief Constable (Police)

  • Military Commander (Armed Forces)

What type of player will enjoy this role?
Do you enjoy making things happen at megagames, interacting with other players and negotiating your position to attempt to deliver on difficult to achieve objectives?

If so, Silver Command could be for you, but bear in mind this could be a hard team to play a part in. Will the survivor teams your people encounter want to help or hinder the government response?

It has been hard on the survivor groups outside the communities that you manage, but perhaps some tea and biscuits can make all the difference?

BBC LOCAL RADIO

The BBC is the media organisation that the public turn to in times of crisis for unbiased, factual news. With the extreme devastation caused by the Event, what capabilities does this venerable corporation still have?

While the BBC correspondents don’t report to the government, they will be expected to not make the already catastrophic situation worse with salacious reporting.

What type of player will enjoy this role?
Can you speak to a room full or players and tell them a story? Do you enjoy gathering information and chasing down evidence to corroborate what you’re being told?

The people need to know the truth and you’re the one to bring it to them. With maybe a dash of government censorship…
